History
Born in 2001, Mimal Malla would wait all year for December to come around. He did not know the exact date, but he knew that sometime in December, his family celebrated Yomari Purnima. This festival marked the end of the rice harvest, where his family celebrated by making Yomaris as an offering to Annapurna, the goddess of grains. For him, this meant one thing: he got to eat those Yomaris first thing in the morning before heading to school. His grandmother and aunt were usually the ones who made the Yomaris, and they would make two kinds of them: one filled with “Chaku” and the other with “Khuwa”.
When that day finally came around in December, he would wake up to the smell of Chaku, a sweet aroma that would get him right out of bed and into the kitchen. His grandmother and aunt made sure to make extra Chaku on the side, just for Mimal, because if it was up to him, he would’ve drunk the delicious, thick Chaku like hot chocolate every day.
This is where his love for Chaku first emerged, and 7 years later, Chaku Bars was born. Not only so Mimal could enjoy this sweet treat every day, but so he could share this feeling with everyone, and so everyone would know what love and comfort felt like.
